Barstool Makeover

I did something that I have been thinking about doing for a while. I just hadn't found the clay/chalk paint and I didn't want to order it on line because of the shipping charges.

Well, my daughter asked if I wanted to go with her the Peddlers Place, a local craft and antique store. Oh course I did! I had been to the store when they were located in a smaller building, but I hadn't been there since they had moved to a much larger building.   Oh my Gosh. What a nice place. and it is FULL of great things.

I found the Paint. I got the paint color I wanted "American Paint Company" clay/chalk mineral base paint in Plymouth Rock for my barstools and a small jar in the Beach Glass for a project I am doing for my daughter.

I have had the fabric for the seats of the barstools for at least two months.  As soon as I got home, I recovered the seats and started painting.  I was in love with this paint. The only thing I wish I had done was rough up the very glossy finish on the chairs.  It took three coats of paint but this paint dries so quickly that it didn't really take only a few hours to complete the painting.
Here is the before

and here is the AFTER!

I love these chairs now!

Well, I am back with my totals. They aren't great but I still ended up with my personal items free and making a little profit. This time of year, just after Christmas, has never been the Best time for me selling on eBay.  The Carhartt shirts didn't sell, the Harley hoodie didn't sell, and the Nike dri-fit didn't sell either.  I will re list those this coming weekend.  I did return the three items I didn't want to keep for a refund of $9.77. This brought my total purchase amount down to $38.31.  I only sold two of my items.  The giraffe print cardigan $28.05 and the Coleman thermal lined flannel shirt sold for $19.99.  Which is a total of $48.04.

I went shopping again!(my favorite pastime) and found a few things to list. I paid $1.00 for this vintage coat, and sold it for $41.00.  The woman's Carhartt sold for $11.50. Those two sold for more than I spent!! I have others left to list.  I will begin listing again this coming weekend.   Due to a short trip we are planning, we didn't want any of the listings to end while we were away. There could be questions and the shipping needs to be done within 24 hours after the item is paid for.

The reason we started selling on eBay was the extra income. My husband lost his job in a blink of an eye, without any warning. He was collecting unemployment but that was a lot less than his paycheck. He was unable to find another job right away. I work full time so I was able to pick up the insurance so we didn't have that to worry about. After reading "My Dear Trash" blog, I thought I can do that!  I read all their tips and tricks for when to shop and what brands they had the best luck with. I went to a local Goodwill (which is only about a mile away) and search for a few of the suggested brands. I brought them home, took pictures, and listed them on eBay.
I have had an eBay account for several years, randomly selling a few things, but used more for buying.
Well, we watched that first week as each thing sold and we were amazed at how well we had done. I took that money and bought several more things and in no time at all, We were making about $200.00 every week that we listed.  I do the buying, the listings, and some of the pictures. My husband does the shipping and some of the pictures. That works out so well for us.
There were times when my husband though that I might have spent too much money but I was confident and it wouldn't take long before I could show him how much I had made from my Large purchases.
I remember going to an estate sale for a middle aged wealthy woman. She had bought the nicest of everything.  I bought clothes (most New with Tags).  I spent $174.00. When I got home, I counted the pieces and there were 174 pieces of clothing.  Two of the items I sold covered the total I spent at the auction. They were large size clothing and they sold easily.  Yep! he was impressed.
I also remember spending $82.00 at another auction. He seemed to be a little upset. I told him not to worry! The Teddi bear I had bought for $7.00 would cover the whole amount I spent at the auction. He looked at me as if to say "oh right!".  Well.....Mr. Teddi bear sold for $719.00.  I think that is when he became a believer.
I have had a vintage bartender book sell for about $180.00, a sewing pattern for $157.00, a sewing gadget sold for about $150.00. These items were all in box lots that I spent about $2.00 for.
We made it through his unemployed months with few worries. He did find a job about a year and a half later and is still employed there.
We now use the eBay money to buy Birthday, Christmas, Easter gifts and to give ourselves a getaway every once in a while.

After working my full time job today, it seemed like a good day to stop at my favorite local Goodwill store.  I usually go to Goodwill on Sundays because they have a new color tag that is half off and the previous weeks tag is $1.00 for clothing and 70% off off "hardgoods" (aka - everything else).  Every once in a while I will stop during the week to look around.  I should really do this more often!
I have been wanting some real dark blue jeans. I assumed I would have to go to the Mall to find them. For some reason, I checked the racks at Goodwill and there they were!! Amazing, and only $4.99. Vera Wang!! I pulled them out and couldn't find a size but they looked like they would fit.  I could have tried them on but Goodwill has a 7 day return policy on most items. I decided to try them on at home. I finally found the size.....They are a size 2 and they fit.  I haven't worn a size 2 in 10 years and I haven't lost any weight!!  Vera Wang just wants me to feel good.  I like that Vera Wang.  I also bought a red Sweater for $1.74 for the casino trip my husband is taking me on for my birthday. Red because it is Lucky you know and the Yellow Oxford shirt with the embroidered logo because that is where I work for $1.74 and FOUR pair of jeans at $4.99 each.

These are my Rewards!

Well, in order for me to feel good about my "personal" purchases, I have to buy a few items to sell on ebay that will cover the costs. These are my Thrifing Rewards. I found a new Harley Davidson Zip front hooded sweatshirt for $3.49. It should sell for at least $20.00 on ebay. A Nike purple Dri-Fit shirt that should sell for $10.00 or more. I found Coleman thermal lined Flannel shirt, A heavyweight Flannel Carhartt Shirt and a black long sleeve Carhartt t-shirt for  $3.49 each. I hope these will sell for around $15.00 to $20.00.  And a J.Crew Giraffe print Cardigan Sweater for $3.49. This should sell for about $15.00 to $20.00 also.

I spent a total of $48.08 including tax. I will be returning two or three items.

The Eddie Bauer Mercer Fit pants didn't fit, The Stretch top has 3/4 sleeves (I don't care for 3/4 sleeves and didn't notice it until I got it home) and the yellow and black hoodie.....I haven't decided yet. Eddie Bauer pants and the George stretch top are not good sellers on ebay so they will go back. The hoodie was for me as a joke to my husband because he says he can't find me at the casino because I don't wear bright enough colors. Well this is bright but I haven't decided if I would really wear it.  I might sell on ebay too. I haven't really checked it out.

I figure I could make $80.00 or more if everything were to sell. All my goodies should be FREE!

I will be listing these in a couple days.  I list for 7 days so I will be back with my totals.
